Goal Setting vision board
Goal setting can be overwhelming for anyone, and teenagers especially are stuck in the middle of expected to be a grown up and living the carefree childhood life. I really love the simplicity of writing thoughts on how you’d like to improve in various areas of life, and after doing so, hanging it up somewhere as a type of vision board.
When sitting down with your teenager to encourage them to make a goal setting vision board, as them 3 questions:
1️⃣If you could do anything you want what would you do?
2️⃣ How would you describe the perfect life as an adult?
3️⃣What would you do with your life if you knew you would succeed?
You can give them these questions and encourage them to write down their thoughts, and even have a conversation with you about them.
‼️The key as the parent is to not respond with *judgment* when they say something like they want to be a YouTuber or a professional soccer player. Here is a great response: “What you are doing each day and the choices you’re making now in your life are the stepping stones that will get you to those goals.”
Asking these curious questions and listening with intent, you’re helping your teens visualize a future that they really want. Talk about what they can do now to make that future a reality. Being responsible now will pay off long term. {Sometimes they may not know what they want to do (and that feels scary), and you can help draw out their strengths to brainstorm}
LDS Youth Goal Setting
As a Christian mom, we base our simple goal setting for teens method off of the New Testament verse Luke 2:52
“Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and Man.”
- Wisdom: Intellectual goals
- Stature: Physical Goals
- Favor with God: Spiritual Goals
- Favor with Man: Social Goals
I love thinking about the simplicity of this verse, and how we can all apply it to our lives with goal setting for teens and for any age.
Since the LDS youth program is based around this scripture, I thought it would be extra nice to have this goal setting vision board for my kids with the scripture on it. However, I created an option in case you don’t want to include the scripture.
Vision Board for Teens
This sheet can be printed and have drawings on it, or magazine cutouts or simply words in each box to signify desires to improve.
Download the 4 page PDF, and choose which page you’d like. Either way, it’s meant to print, fill out, and hang on the wall to remember the long term goals.
